life cycle of our straws

Bamboo
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth. Compared to trees, some which take hundreds of years to grow into maturity, bamboo reaches maturity in approximately 3 years. We source our materials from Taiwan which is home to 185 thousand hectares of bamboo forests. In order to supply the approximately 600 billion straws used in the world annually, we would only need approximately 6 percent of Taiwan’s supply to meet the world’s demand. By choosing this highly renewable resource, Bubuwares’ burden on the world’s natural resources is minimal.

Dry Processing
Our innovative dry processing technique does not require any chemicals to break down the plant’s structure. During the production process, the bamboo plant structure is ground into a powder and processed into a natural bamboo fibre which eliminates any unnecessary water pollution. The processing temperature is also strictly controlled and kept under 200°C to effectively ensure low carbon emissions.

BUBU Straws
Our straws are strong, durable, and can hold its shape in drinks for over 24 hours. BUBU straws are also heat resistance up to 100°C and unlike paper straws, don’t get soggy or dissolve in your drinks.

Biodegradation
Our straws start breaking down in 45 days when placed in any natural environment or landfill and it does not produce any toxic gas during waste incineration. The straws decompose by microorganisms in the environment after 90 days and even faster when in water. Since we use only bamboo fibre and starch, the dissolved substances are returned to the environment and become the Earth’s nutrients.
